Sead Kolasinac believes he is thriving under Arsene Wenger after admitting he initially found it daunting playing under the Arsenal manager.

The Bosnian defender joined Arsenal in the summer on a free transfer from Schalke 04 and has become an instant hit at the Emirates.

Kolasinac has proved why he was so highly-rated in Germany with a string of assured performances in the Premier League and the Europa League.

The 24-year-old insists he is enjoying his relationship with Wenger, who has been at Arsenal for over 20 years, although he was initially ‘nervous’ about working under the experienced Frenchman.

‘It is really a lot of fun to work alongside a manager like Arsene Wenger,’ Kolasinac told Arsenal’s official website. ‘He has been here ever since I can remember.

‘At the start, maybe I was a bit nervous to work alongside him. The fact that he speaks German really helps me – it made it a lot easier again for me to settle in here. He is good to work with.’

Kolasinac also praised his team-mates at Arsenal for welcoming him to the club and says this has helped him adjust to life in north London.

‘The main reason is the way the team have welcomed me here,’ he added when asked to pinpoint the reason for his impressive early-season form.

‘It helps you on the pitch when you know they have accepted you and accepted you in the way they have. That’s definitely been the main reason for it.’

Arsenal have recovered superbly from the thrashing they suffered at Liverpool earlier in the season and Kolasinac has been an influential figure in Wenger’s rejuvenated side.

But the defender intends to continue improving at Arsenal, saying he has the potential to get even better.

‘The season is young but I am happy with how I’ve developed and how I have started,’ he added. ‘But I have got more potential to get better and I want to show that in the coming games.’

Arsenal, who are currently fifth in the Premier League, travel to Vicarage Road on Saturday to face Marco Silva’s in-form Watford.
