Jose Mourinho is ready to sign a new contract with Manchester United worth £65 million, according to reports.

The Sun claims that United’s hierarchy have been so impressed with 54-year-old that they have offered him a five-year deal.

Mourinho’s base salary of £250,000 a week will remain the same but his performance-related add-ons are set to significantly rise as part of the new package.

The Portguese signed a three-year contract when he took over at United in the summer of 2016, but has now indicated that he is willing to extend his stay.

Mourinho guided United to success in the EFL Cup and the Europa League last term and has made an encouraging start in his bid to win the Premier League title this season.

United have also won their first two games under Mourinho in the Champions League group stage.

When asked about his contract situation, Mourinho admitted he would be happy to run down his deal but suggested he wanted to stay at Old Trafford for longer than his three-year contract.

‘I can say I would like to stay many years,’ the United boss said in an interview last month.

‘I don’t need a new contract to work to my limits.

‘I don’t have a problem to arrive at the end of my contract and be free to decide what I want to do and the club free to decide what they want to do.’
