Manchester United are considering a move for Liverpool midfielder Emre Can after encouraging reports from the club’s chief scout, according to reports.

The Germany international is out of contract next summer and appears to have little interest in signing an extension to remain at Anfield, allowing him to leave the club for nothing.

And, according to Italian publication Tuttosport, that has alerted United to his availability as Jose Mourinho looks to bolster his midfield over the coming transfer windows.

It is claimed that the Red Devils’ chief scout, Javier Ribalta, has been watching Can closely and is pushing for the club to sign the German, though Liverpool will absolutely refuse to sell him in January.

Juventus are also interested in signing the 23-year-old when his contract with the Merseysiders expires.

United have a real need for a new midfielder, with Michael Carrick and Ander Herrera both out of contract at the end of the season.

There are also doubts surrounding the future of Marouane Fellaini, despite the Belgium working his way back into Mourinho’s first-team plans and performing extremely well in recent weeks.

Can, meanwhile, insists he is not stalling on a new deal to earn more money.

‘I read it was about money but it isn’t about money,’ he said earlier this year.

‘It is never about the money. We’ve had a few good meetings and everything is fine. I am happy at Liverpool.

‘You never know what will happen in football but I am happy here and I am still contracted here. Everything is fine.’
