Jose Mourinho believes Anthony Martial has shown a significant improvement in his mood and happiness at Manchester United.

The 21-year-old started only 18 Premier League games last season, while reports claimed that the forward was unhappy with his lack of chances to impress under Mourinho at Old Trafford.

So far this term, Martial has featured in all five of United’s league games, although he has started only one of those matches.

But in his 122 minutes on the pitch, the France international has scored three goals and registered one assist.

Martial was also voted man of the match for his performance in the 4-1 win over Burton Albion in the Carabao Cup earlier this week.

‘I see a great improvement in the person, the mood, the body language, if you want just a word – the happiness,’ said Mourinho.

‘He’s a happy guy, working extremely well, starts matches tries to do well, [when he] comes from the bench, even if it is for 10 minutes like in the last match at home, he tries to enjoy and to give something extra in these minutes.

‘I’m very pleased with his attitude overall, then it’s easier to play well.’
