Danny Rose will miss Tottenham’s Premier League opener against Newcastle on Sunday and looks set to sit out August due to injury.

The left-back underwent knee surgery in May after a previous four-month lay-off.

Rose has not played since January, but is making good progress in his injury comeback.

Manchester United, Chelsea and Inter have been heavily linked with a transfer for Rose in recent weeks.

And the Tottenham defender has cast doubt over his future at Spurs with an explosive interview he gave to the Sun.

Rose demanded a pay rise and insisted Tottenham needed to sign players he didn’t have to ‘Google’.

The England international will have plenty of time to think over his comments as he is unlikely to return until after the international break.

The Three Lions have two World Cup qualifiers at the start of September, but Rose could be back in action after the games against Malta and Slovakia.

The Slovakia test is on September 4 with Tottenham due to resume their club schedule on September 9 against Everton.

Chelsea and United will be monitoring Rose’s progress carefully as both clubs weigh up a move for the defender after his comments.

Tottenham have no interest in selling Rose and will resist any moves for their full-back.

Spurs have already lost right-back Kyle Walker to Manchester City this summer and do not want another top defender joining a rival this window.
