Nathan Ake has challenged the view of Antonio Conte by revealing he left Chelsea because he couldn’t see an opportunity for first-team football under the Italian.

The young Dutch defender switched to Bournemouth earlier this summer in a £20million move.

He’s one of many promising young Blues players that have moved on from Stamford Bridge this summer. Dominic Solanke became a free agent and took the opportunity to join Liverpool, Nathaniel Chalobah joined Watford for £5m, Tammy Abraham went out on loan again and Ruben Loftus-Cheek joined Crystal Palace on a season-long loan deal.

Conte recently appeared to question those young players, suggesting they didn’t possess enough patience to wait for opportunities to arise at Chelsea.

‘Sometimes I think the young players lose their patience very quickly,’ said the former Italy manager.

‘A lot of the time because of parents or the people around them. I think the advisers aren’t right.

‘The first thing they should have is good patience. Trust the club. Then work very hard to know that to play at this level you must be stronger – and very good.

‘Sometimes, young players think they can play easily in the first team, but that’s not true. I have to pick 11 players. Not only me, every coach.’

Ake has responded to those comments, revealing that he just didn’t have the belief that Conte would give him enough game time.

‘It is a short career, but I’m 22 now and I feel like I have had a good experience playing games and you just want to continue doing that,

‘I understand what he said but I think we also know that Chelsea is a big club and for myself it was going to be difficult to come in and play straight away.

‘The decision to come here was to be able to play more games which is important for me and that is why I came here.

‘There are no guarantees that I will play coming here but if I train hard and play well then I will have a chance. Hopefully, I can be in the team from the start of the season.’

Ake impressed during a six month loan spell with the Cherries last season. So impressive were his performances he was recalled by Conte midway through the season. But having made 10 Premier League appearances for Bournemouth, he made just two after his return to Chelsea.
