Arsenal have a ‘real interest’ in signing Jean-Michael Seri from Nice, according to reports in France.

L’Equipe claims that while the Gunners have not yet made an offer for the 26-year-old, Arsene Wenger is a keen admirer and has a long-standing interest in the midfielder.

But Arsenal are facing competition for the Ivory Coast international as Tottenham are also interested, while Swansea have had a €17 million (£15m) offer rejected.

Seri, who was one of Nice’s standout stars last season as the team finished third in Ligue 1, has a release clause of €40m (£36m).

Roma had reportedly agreed a contract with Seri earlier this summer but the Serie A club are refusing to meet the midfielder’s buyout clause.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Thomas from Monaco.

It’s been reported that Monaco were initially demanding £80m for the France international but are hopeful that they can sign the midfielder for around £45m.
