Riyad Mahrez gave Arsenal a reminder of what they could have this summer with a well-taken solo goal for Leicester City in their friendly against West Brom.

The Algeria international is being strongly linked with a move to Roma at the moment, with reports that he’s agreed personal terms as the two clubs continue to negotiate a fee.

However, it is also thought that Mahrez is holding out for an offer from Arsenal, who would be one of his preferred choices, along with Barcelona.

Arsenal seem to be prioritising the £80million-rated Monaco winger Thomas Lemar at the moment, but Mahrez has given Arsene Wenger a reminder of what he’s capable of with this lovely solo goal today.

Leicester are taking on West Brom in a pre-season match, with Mahrez hitting a well-taken equaliser from just outside the box after leaving two defenders in his wake.

While the 26-year-old did not enjoy the best form of his career last season, he stood out as a world class attacker the previous year when he won PFA Player of the Year and helped the Foxes to a shock Premier League title win.

Arsenal had tried to sign Mahrez that summer, only for him to commit to Leicester with a new contract, though he’s now gone public with his desire to leave the King Power Stadium.

While Roma may be his most likely destination at the moment, Arsenal could do well to refocus their efforts into signing the skillful wide-man as he makes a great start to pre-season.
