Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is expressing a strong interest in CSKA Moscow star Aleksandr Golovin, it has been confirmed.
Golovin has scored six goals in 70 appearances since breaking into CSKA’s first-team back in 2015 but the 21-year-old midfielder is being heavily linked with a move to the Emirates ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.
Football agent Sandor Varga, who represented ex-Gunner Oleg Luzhny, claims Wenger asked him to watch Golovin play for Russia in a phone call during the Confederations Cup.
When asked whether he was at Russia’s clash with Mexico for work or pleasure, Varga told Sports Daily Russia: ‘Arsene Wenger called me and asked me to watch Golovin again.
‘He was going to come but his scout in Russia sent him 6 to 8 positive reports and so he asked me to watch him instead.’
Varga believes Arsenal will have to spend around £10million to land the Russia international.
Reports suggest Chelsea are also keeping close tabs on Golovin and have held negotiations with CSKA over a possible move for the highly-rated youngster.
