Andre Schurrle says the influence of Jose Mourinho prompted him to leave Bayer Leverkusen for Chelsea this summer.

Schurrle completed a £20million move to Chelsea this week after months of speculation, signing a four-year deal at Stamford Bridge.

And after putting pen to paper, the Germany international revealed that the influence of new Blues boss Mourinho proved crucial in his decision to join.

‘Mourinho has a great personality and is just a cool guy,’ said Schurrle.

‘He was a big influence in my move.

‘He gave me a handshake when we were at Michael Ballack’s testimonial game, and said “it’s OK, soon you’ll be with me”. It gave me a lot of pride and was a great feeling.’

Schurrle will add to Chelsea’s plethora of attacking talent, being able to play as a play-maker and even up front.

However, it is expected that he will occupy a space out wide where he will be charged with offering genuine width and delivering dangerous crosses.

He’ll link up with his new team-mates at the end of the month.
