Abou Diaby.

Sigh.

I don’t think I’ll ever get over the way his career at Arsenal went; crippled before he had a chance to show the world the player he was destined to be before he met Dan Smith.

Yes, that’s right Smith, we still blame you even though you might be a little fed up with it and feel sorry for yourself.

Released by Arsenal this summer after failing to demonstrate an ability to stay fit, Diaby signed for Marseille this week and you have a heart made of rocks if you aren’t wishing for him to finally put together some semblance of a career.

Speaking to RMC in France, Diaby said “In nine years, I had hard times, but also very beautiful moments.

“I had the chance to meet a coach like Arsene Wenger, who is a great coach and a great man too. I have this regret at not having been able to express all my qualities and my potential.

“I arrived young at heart I had to evolve in this club and almost finished my career there. My life has meant that this was not the case. Now a new chapter opens. I will do everything in order to return to a good level.”

We all know that Arsene Wenger would have loved nothing more than to see Diaby able to prove himself at Arsenal but after years of continuous setbacks the time arrived to let him go, something the player himself wanted as well.

Everyone here at Daily Cannon will be keeping one eye on Marseille and how Abou gets on this season.

Please let this be the one.
