Manchester City 1-1 Liverpool, 2017 Premier League: Player Ratings

Manchester City and Liverpool played out an thrilling draw for the crowd at the Etihad on Sunday.

Let’s get this out of the way early: Michael Oliver was terrible. Between horrendous missed penalty calls to strange booking decisions, both Pep Guardiola and Jürgen Klopp are sure to have their complaints of the young official.

In the end both teams will rue missed opportunities to take the lead, like Adam Lallana’s miss from inches away or Sergio Aguero’s late volley over the bar. A draw will probably please both managers considering the form and mental state their teams were in coming into Sunday's match.

Let's look at the ratings for City's players after this awesome match:

Willy Caballero: 7.5

Despite not being able to save a penalty against Liverpool this time, Caballero was very strong in goal, especially in the first half when City were struggling with the pace of Liverpool.

Fernandinho: 7.0

Playing at right-back Fernandinho looked good against Liverpool. With potential knocks to both Bacary Sagna and Pablo Zabaleta, perhaps Fernandinho is the answer for the remainder of the season.

John Stones: 7.5

Part of the reason Fernandinho looked good at right-back was the play of John Stones next to him in the defense. The Englishman had another very solid game on Sunday.

Nicolas Otamendi: 7.0

The ever controversial Otamendi was the right choice against Liverpool. With the Reds' pace all over the forward line, having Otamendi was crucial to snuff out some of Liverpool’s counter attacks.

Gaël Clichy: 5.5

The Frenchman was really the victim in giving away the penalty to Roberto Firmino, but even outside of that the veteran defender struggled. Even with the injuries at right-back, the left side seems like a bigger issue.

Yaya Touré: 6.5

Touré did a lot of very good stuff. He was strong on the ball and linked the play when City needed him to, but eventually the pace of the game caught up with the big Ivorian and he was exhausted in the second half.

David Silva: 7.0

City’s magician was back to his usual creative and dynamic self on Sunday. Silva wasn't the strongest of City’s midfielders, but his ability to create was evident in almost every City attack.

Kevin De Bruyne: 8.0 (Man of the Match)

The mighty Belgian picked himself right up after a poor game against Monaco and delivered a great performance on Sunday. De Bruyne’s crosses were dangerous all afternoon, and one of those eventually became an assist.

Raheem Sterling: 7.0

The young Englishman had one of his stronger games against his former side on Sunday. Should have drawn a penalty and possibly a red card, but poor officiating denied Sterling a crucial contribution to the match.

Leroy Sané: 6.5

This wasn’t Sané’s best game, but part of that was because a lot of City’s attacks happened on the right side. When he was involved, he couldn't do anything special, but his constant movement always helps the rest of the attack.

Sergio Agüero: 7.0

The Argentine scored a goal that few strikers in the world can. It was the perfect combination of an excellent run in behind the defender and a deft finish to give City a big goal. He also missed a giant chance in the end, and that's why the Argentine can't get a higher rating.

Bacary Sagna: 6.0

The Frenchman didn’t make the starting lineup but was able to come on as a sub for Yaya Touré, moving Fernandinho to the middle.

Fernando: N/A

Not enough time to mark the Brazilian who came on to strengthen things up at the back.
