‘Slaven Bilic has done the best job of ANY Premier League boss this season… it is extraordinary what he has achieved with West Ham’

Slaven Bilic has been the best boss in the Premier League this season.

That's the claim from top journalist Matt Scott, who was a co-host on Jim White's talkSPORT show on Monday.

West Ham flirted with relegation this term before sealing an 11th-place finish in the Premier League and there has been speculation that Bilic's position could be under threat.

But, according to Scott, it is ridiculous that the Croatian's future has been called into question.

He insists Bilic has performed miracles having had to contend with numerous injury problems, the January loss of star man Dimitri Payet and the difficulties of moving to a new ground.

"Slaven Bilic has done the best job in the Premier League this season, of all the managers," said Scott.

"In terms of the achievements he has accomplished by keeping West Ham in the Premier League, it is extraordinary given what he faced.

"If you go over the last five seasons of Premier League clubs, you have got 100 case studies of injuries. Of all those five seasons, West Ham have the highest injury instance this season.

"He has lost both his first choice strikers, he has lost defenders... loads and loads of people have been unavailable of the course of this season.

"On top of that, he lost Payet. The way he turned that against Payet and Marseille and managed to create for the first time some unity in the stands at West Ham was absolutely astonishing.

"They were in the relegation positions at that point in time, they lost their only top, top player, and where did they finish? One place below last season’s champions. It is amazing."

Bilic is due to meet West Ham co-chairman David Sullivan this week to discuss his future at the club.

The 48-year-old is approaching the final 12 months of his contract and has yet to be offered an extended deal.

But Scott is convinced he will still be charge at the start of the 2017/18 campaign.

He added: "David Sullivan is no mug. He knows football inside out, he knows the value of retaining that Premier League status, and I understand very well that he [Bilic] is going to be retained and given what he believes he needs next season."
