Phil Neville tells talkSPORT: Romelu Lukaku is NOT a big-game player…Manchester United should try to sign Gareth Bale or Antoine Griezmann instead

Romelu Lukaku is not a big-game player and Jose Mourinho should concentrate on bringing Gareth Bale or Antoine Griezmann to Manchester United, according to Phil Neville.

The Belgian striker scored in Everton’s final-day defeat at Arsenal, finishing the season on 25 Premier League goals, four behind golden boot winner Harry Kane.

The 24-year-old has been linked with a summer move away from Goodison after rejecting the offer of a new long-term contract, but talkSPORT understands the Toffees will not entertain bids under £100million.

Should that fee be matched, it would break the world-record transfer fee paid for Paul Pogba last summer and former Red Devils defender Neville feels they should use their money more wisely, by attempting to sign Bale from Real Madrid or Griezmann from Atletico Madrid.

“I’m not so sure [Lukaku would fit in at Man United],” Neville told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.

“I would prefer United to go out and get Gareth Bale or Antoine Griezmann, I really would.

“I have watched Lukaku and I am a big fan, but I see him in the big games and I don’t see a player that grabs and wins a big game on his own.

“I still think there are question marks against Lukaku. Jose sold him and he didn’t play that much at Chelsea, so he knows him well.

“I think the ideal signing would be Harry Kane - but I don’t think United will get him. But Griezmann and Bale, I think these are the players that can take United closer to winning the Premier League.”

Another exciting prospect emerging on the radar of a number of top European clubs is Kylian Mbappe.

The 18-year-old has had a stunning breakthrough season at Monaco, scoring 26 goals and assisting 14 in all competitions to help his side beat Paris Saint-Germain to the Ligue 1 title.

He has earned plenty of plaudits after impressive performances in helping Leonardo Jardim’s side to the last four of the Champions League and Neville says he is ‘sensational’.

“I think United are probably one of the only ones who can afford to pay for him, you are talking maybe £100m," said Neville.

“I have watched him twice, against Tottenham and against Man City, and I have never seen pace like it.

“He will be bought, but rumour has it he will be staying in Monaco for one more season.

“Look, he is still young enough to develop there and I am sure we will see him in the Premier League sooner rather than later.”
