Newcastle and West Ham blow! Lyon closing in on Mathieu Valbuena signing

Lyon are on the verge of sealing a move for Mathieu Valbuena despite reported interest from Newcastle and West Ham.

The attacking midfielder is ready to leave Dynamo Moscow this summer and return to France ahead of next year's European Championships.

Both Newcastle and West Ham were monitoring the 30-year-old's situation over 12 months ago and there were claims their interest could reignite during the current window.

However, according L'Equipe, Valbuena is now set for Lyon after meeting with the club's hierarchy.

The former Marseille man has agreed a provisional contract with the French side, which will see him take a pay cut in order to secure a move back to his homeland.

Lyon must now agree a fee with Dynamo Moscow, who purchased Valbuena for £6million last summer.
