Manchester United transfer report: Red Devils target Fabinho has NOT agreed Atletico Madrid switch, insist Monaco

Monaco have played down speculation Manchester United target Fabinho is on the verge of joining Atletico Madrid.

Reports had emerged that Atletico have agreed a deal with Monaco for Fabinho, with the 23-year-old Brazil international ready to move to Spain in January.

While both clubs remain in negotiations, it has been claimed that the Ligue 1 champions are yet to reach any agreement with the Spanish giants for the sale of the midfielder.

According to L'Equipe, negotiations are ongoing and Monaco have indeed received a bid worth £40million from Atletico - but there is still some way to go before an agreement can be reached.

Monaco are hopeful of keeping the Brazilian at the club for the start of next season and they are prepared to stall negotiations to ensure they hold on to their prized asset.

Manchester United have also been interested Fabinho, but while a move to Old Trafford seems unlikely, Jose Mourinho has diverted his attentions to other potential transfer targets.
