Manchester United news: ‘Marcus Rashford is BETTER than Romelu Lukaku’ – Jason Cundy on talkSPORT

talkSPORT’s Jason Cundy has compared Marcus Rashford’s position at Manchester United to the one of Nathaniel Chalobah at Chelsea - and says new signing Romelu Lukaku is no better than the England forward.

Chalobah ended his 12-year association with the west Londoners when he rejected the offer of a new contract to sign a five-year deal at Watford.

The Premier League champions had high expectations of the 22-year-old, but the inevitable arrival of Tiemoue Bakayoko means the academy graduate would have been unable to improve on last season's 10 Premier League appearances.

Meanwhile Red Devils academy product Rashford made 32 league appearances last term, but he was often played out of position to make way for others in the team.

After Romelu Lukaku was signed for £75m, Rashford’s chances of starting in a central role in Jose Mourinho’s preferred 4-2-3-1 formation look slim.

Cundy, who co-presents the Sports Bar with Andy Goldstein, told Drivetime when discussing Chalobah’s depature: “[Look at] Marcus Rashford at Manchester United…he’s just seen the signing of Lukaku.

“A similar type of thing has happened - I think Rashford, actually, is better than Lukaku.

“Personally, if I had to play one man up top and I was a United fan, I would go [with] Rashford and it is the same sort of scenario [to Chelsea and their youth system].

“We don’t know what’s going to happen with Rashford, he’ll probably play out wide, 40 games, but not in his position.

“At the very highest level it’s difficult. [Look at] Arsenal - when was the last time they brought a player through? It’s a sign of the times I’m afraid.”
