Man United’s Young set for spell out as a result of Lloris challenge

David Moyes has revealed Ashley Young is facing a spell on the sidelines after injuring his shoulder in the controversial collision with Hugo Lloris during Manchester United‘s defeat to Tottenham on Wednesday.

Moyes was furious at referee Howard Webb for not awarding a penalty when Lloris charged out and appeared to catch Young late on in the game at Old Trafford.

Now Young has been ruled out Sunday's FA Cup third-round encounter with Swansea, further fuelling the United manager’s annoyance at Lloris getting away with his challenge.

"Ashley has got an injury that is going to keep him out for a time," said Moyes.

"It is a shoulder injury he received in the challenge by the goalkeeper. I am not sure how long it will be."

Moyes branded Webb's decision not to give a penalty for the challenge on Young as ‘scandalous’, but he is not prepared to push for the widening of video technology beyond its current limit of determining whether shots have crossed the line or not.

"I wouldn't go down the route of video technology," said Moyes. "I trust the referees to make the right decisions.

"They do make the wrong ones at times and I have not changed how I felt on Wednesday. I thought that was the wrong decision."

Robin van Persie, who has missed six games with a thigh injury, will also miss this weekend’s FA Cup clash at Old Trafford.

And Moyes refused to offer an update on the fitness of the Dutch striker.

"We will let you know when he is ready," said the Scot.
