Man United scrap move for Sevilla defender

Manchester United have scrapped their plans to move for Sevilla defender Alberto Moreno, according to reports in Spain.

David Moyes wants to sign a new left-back due to concerns over the form of Patrice Evra and the ability of Alexander Buttner, who has failed to impress at Old Trafford since signing from Vitesse Arnhem.

Moyes unsuccessfully tried to sign Leighton Baines from Everton during the summer and has recently been linked with Moreno, who earned his first two senior Spain caps toward the end of last year.

But Spanish newspaper Estadio Deportivo claim United have dropped their interest in Moreno as they are unwilling to meet Sevilla's asking price, which is thought to be in the region of £20m.

Real Madrid also maintain an interest in Moreno, who has scored twice in La Liga this season.
