Former Man United captain Vidic hailed as ‘great signing’ by Inter Milan chief

Inter Milan want to rebuild their club with more shrewd deals like the one they struck with Manchester United for Nemanja Vidic.

The 33-year-old centre-back walked out of United in the summer along with long-time defensive partner Rio Ferdinand, leaving a young and inexperienced back-line at Old Trafford.

But while Ferdinand is now struggling to get a game at rock-bottom Premier League club QPR, Vidic is seen as the benchmark for which all future Inter signings should meet.

"We always look for players that can improve Inter's quality regardless of their provenance," Inter's sporting director Piero Ausilio said.

"Nemanja Vidic is an example of this. He was a great signing because he arrived here intact and for free.

"He's got a great mentality and he will show what it means to be a winner. He has been a lynchpin to a historical club like Manchester United.

"I am sure that on the market there are other solutions like him, older or younger than him.

"There are very talented players that we are following, others that are made attractive because of their expiring contracts."
