Daniel Sturridge to leave Liverpool? Alan Brazil and Kieron Dyer go head-to-head

Daniel Sturridge's Liverpool's future is the subject of much debate this morning, with newspaper reports claiming he is ready to quit Anfield becasue he is fed up with the constant criticism of him due to his lengthy injury lay-offs.

It is a situation that divides opinion, and it certainly did just that in the Sports Breakfast studio this morning as Alan Brazil and Kieron Dyer went toe-to-toe...

Kieron Dyer: "If he’s got a legitimate injury, and he knows he’s going to go on the pitch and there’s a great chance he could break down after ten or 15 minutes, I think he’s doing the right thing [by saying he's unfit]. Yes, people want to see the desire, and when he’s on the pitch he does show that desire. He’s Liverpool’s most important and best player, when he’s on the pitch."

Alan Brazil: "I’d get rid. If he comes back to haunt you and scores two, well, it’s a decision you have to make."

KD: "If they sell Daniel Sturridge on the cheap, they are going to spend, what, £40million or £50million to get a striker of that calibre though."

AB: "Well, he’s not playing at the moment so you’re not missing anything. When he plays, yeah, but he doesn’t play."

KD:" He will play, he’ll come back with a bang."

AB: "A bang?!"

KD: "I still think he’ll make the England squad. I think Roy Hodgson will give him all the time in the world, and being an England fan we need a top Daniel Sturridge. He has the potential to be world class and you can’t say that about many of the England squad."

AB: "I definitely think he’s weak in his head, I do. I think he’s got a problem with his body, no doubt about it, and that is a great shame, but I think sometimes you’ve got to go out there and play when you’re at 85 per cent. He is, as you say, an international football player, a great player, but I think he’s just got to be a little bit stronger. I think [Jurgen] Klopp will fall out of love with him. I’m sure he will."

KD: "I think he has already fallen out of love with him if you read the quotes and hear what he has to say, which is a shame. I hope it gets resolved because Liverpool need him if they are to get back to being the force they once were."

AB: "They need players like him, you’re right."
