Arsenal FC news: ‘I feel guilty saying it, but it’s time for Arsene Wenger to go’, says Gunners legend Frank McLintock

Arsenal legend Frank McLintock says it is time for Arsene Wenger to go.

Speaking to the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, McLintock said he has nothing but admiration for the job the Frenchman has done over the past 20 years but that a change of manager must happen for the good of the club.

The Gunners have gone 13 years without winning the Premier League under Wenger and finished fifth this season to miss out on Champions League qualification.

"I do generally feel as though it is time for a change but I feel guilty saying it because he has been so good," said McLintock, who spent nine years at Arsenal and captained the north London club.

Wenger, who has yet to announce whether he will stay on, insists Arsenal only need a couple of additions to bounce back and challenge for the title next season.

But McLintock disagrees: "I look at that team and they are nowhere near winning the Premier League.

“They are really miles behind and if they get into the Europa League they might find it difficult to get top players again.”
