Arsenal FC news: Arsene Wenger on why Gunners failed to beat Leicester City to the Premier League title

Arsenal finished the season with a 4-0 victory over Aston Villa to end ahead of rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

But while the result sees Arsene Wenger's side again get the better of their fierce London rivals, it hasn't deterred from the Gunners' failure to challenge for the title.

Arsenal sat top of the table heading into 2016, but Leicester City cruised to glory as the Premier League's elite struggled to keep pace.

"We got, for a while, absolutely criticised for not winning the league," said Wenger.

But the Frenchman believes Leicester City were simply the deserved winners this season, labelling the Foxes as the best side in Europe, ahead of La Liga champions Barcelona.

"We did our job against Leicester and they lost only three games.

"Barcelona lost more, Real Madrid lost more, but Leicester have been top in Europe this season."
