Arsenal and Liverpool set to miss out on Brazil star

Al Ahli are still hopeful of sealing an audacious move for Luiz Adriano - despite growing interest from Arsenal and Liverpool.

The Brazil international smashed nine goals for Shakhtar Donetsk during the group stages of the Champions League last season and clubs are fighting for him this summer.

UAE side Al Ahli had been close to completing a move for the striker after agreeing a fee with the Ukrainian club on Wednesday.

However, reports emerged that the transfer had stalled after the player had heard of interest from the Premier League.

But Al Ahli chairman Abdullah Saeed Al Naboodah has revealed that his club are still hoping to pull off a coup by signing the 28-year-old.

"I had tweeted about this, that we did have an agreement with Shakhtar," Al Naboodah said in an Arabic television interview translated by The National.

"Over the last three weeks we were close to a deal with the player. Things have changed a little over the last four or five days.

"But hopefully things are progressing to a positive resolution for Al Ahli. I cannot give you a percentage.

"At the end of the day it's all down to money. We must get to a figure that's acceptable for us and to the other party.

"It's a matter of finances and hopefully in the coming days, things will become much clearer."
