There were a number of impressive individual displays in Tottenham’s 1-1 draw with Real Madrid at the Bernabeu on Tuesday night.

We saw Hugo Lloris made a string of stunning saves, including an incredible point blank stop to prevent Karim Benzema from scoring for Madrid.

Harry Winks also caught the eye. The 21-year-old dictated the play in midfield and looked completely unfazed by the occasion.

The entire defence was in top form, but a special mention has to go to Jan Vertonghen.

The Belgian played on the left of a back five – not his preferred position – and he did brilliantly.

For me, Vertonghen has become one of the best defenders in the world under Mauricio Pochettino’s management.

His one-on-one defending against Madrid was particularly effective, as evidenced by the video below.

  1. Vertonghen has been world class all season. Has outshone Toby, and is really starting to up his game. Contender for MOTM in our last 5 games no doubt.
