There’s a dubious report in the Spanish press doing the rounds at the moment. It claims Real Madrid are willing to offer Luka Modric, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema in exchange for Harry Kane.

I don’t think there’s any truth to it, but the story does raise an interesting question: would Tottenham let Kane leave in exchange for one of those players? Or even all three?

A year ago I would have almost certainly said yes, but now I’m genuinely not sure.

Modric is 32 now, and while he’d still improve any team in the world, who knows if he will be begin to recede in quality sooner rather than later.

Bale has the ability to produce match-winning moments, but Kane is arguably even better than him now in that regard, and he’s definitely more physically able.

As for Benzema, he has a prolific record for Madrid but even he can’t hold a candle to Kane’s numbers in 2017.

Of course, the collective quality of all three players would make up for the loss of any star player. But the personal connection between Kane and the fans is impossible to replicate.

So what do you think? Would you let Kane go if it meant signing Modric, Bale AND Benzema? Or even just one of them? If so, which one? Let me know in the comments.

  1. I love Harry Kane, but honestly I think getting bale and either modric or benzema will be worth it. Remember what Bale did for spurs a couple of years ago.

    • Jleaving in the past. G.Bale is injury prone, Modric I soon a pensioner and Benzema is not a Tottenham type of player. Spurs has moved on from such dross.

  2. ModRat is 32, Bale is 28 and Benzema is 29. RM offloading their pensioners. I say NO. To James Blackwell…look at what HK has done and will do for a number of years yet. A good possibility of HK getting tyhe golden boot for a 3rd year in a row…maybe the Ballon D’Or?

  3. How would you pay these players.I don’t think they would accept buttons!Seriously,Spurs would rather pay HK their combined salaries and keep him.If he goes sometime in the future it will be to pay off loans for new stadium.

  4. No and No and No . I could be wrong but i think Harry has scored more goals
This year than the three combined. So no thanks we keep the Harry goal mine .

  5. So Levy won’t pay Harry £150k per week, but this deal is being touted? Are they going to be taking £30k a week each, would Madrid be subsidising their wages to the tune of a few hundred grand per week or is this just paper BS?
