Former Ajax academy head Wim Jonk has revealed his thoughts on the strengths and weaknesses of new Tottenham signing Davinson Sanchez.

Jonk was in charge of the highly esteemed Ajax academy between 2011 and 2015, so when it comes to young players his opinion counts for something.

The former Netherlands international was asked about Sanchez, who Spurs signed for a record fee last month, at the Soccerex convention (quotes via Football.London).

“From what I’ve seen of Sanchez, he’s a really good defender,” said Jonk, “but I think he must think quicker, especially in England because the game is much faster.”

He added: “So he must think two steps forward, two steps ahead. Now he has a good recovery but if you have to recover all the time you will end up being too late. That’s a big challenge for him.”

Sanchez is in contention to make his first start for Tottenham against Everton at Goodison Park this weekend.
