Arsenal fans coin new phrase to say they are not missing Alexis Sanchez as Gunners run riot vs Crystal Palace

Arsene Wenger's men react to Sanchez's looming exit to Manchester United with a crazy goal spell - sparking a Twitter frenzy from fans saying the Gunners don't need the superstar

ARSENAL fans responded to a goal frenzy against Crystal Palace with a storm of their own - flooding social media to insist Alexis Sanchez is no longer needed.

The Chile superstar said goodbye to his Gunners team-mates on Friday night as he closes on a £20million move to Manchester United.

And Gunners supporters were soon firing off just as many shots as their team's strikers as they queued up to tweet variations of: "Who needs Alexis Sanchez?"

Left-back Nacho Monreal hit the opener and teed up two as Arsenal netted four times in 16 early minutes in the 4-1 Premier League victory against Palace today.

That added to the defiant spirit of Emirates fans on social media.

One tweeted: "Just as you start to give up on Arsenal, they pull this out the bag!"

Another tweeted: "He's gone. Can't do anything about it. A toxic substance good is a good thing."

And the mood of the afternoon among Arsenal followers was perhaps summed up by this tweet: "Who needs Sanchez when we get one goal and two assists from Monreal in 12 minutes."

Sanchez, 29, left the Arsenal team hotel on Friday night just as United winger Henrikh Mkhitaryan made his own tearful exit ahead of a move in the opposite direction.

And Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, for so long the favourites to sign Sanchez, has already passed on his good wishes to a player he bossed at Barcelona.

Guardiola said: "I think he will go to United, congratulations for both of them, the players and their managers decide where they want to play, good luck."
