WATFORD captain Troy Deeney is taking his future one day at a time amidst his turbulent season... with Newcastle and West Brom eyeing up a January transfer.
Deeney, 32, has started just nine times in the 2017-18 season as he struggles to replicate his form from the past two campaigns.
The Hornets skipper has played just once since being sent-off against Huddersfield on December 16.
But he opened up about his future - with both the Toon and Baggies interested in his services - in Watford's pre-match programme ahead of their clash with Southampton.
Deeney revealed: "It wouldn’t be January — or any other transfer window for that matter — without there being some chat about my future here.
"Over the years since that’s been a factor I’ve learned to deal with everything as a day-to-day matter and not be distracted from doing my work properly.
"I’m sure other people have different ways of putting things into perspective...
"But you’ve certainly got to have at least an idea of how you’re going to box things off and let them pass by when there are people trying to put stuff right in your face.

"My family, for example, are no strangers to reading the papers and then asking questions.
"A player’s life and a team-mate’s life is like that in football.

"A bloke can have turned up for work one day and he’s gone, going off somewhere else four or six hours later.
"So it’s important to retain your focus on what’s in front of you and not get too far ahead of yourself with big plans for this or that."
Deeney was named on the bench for the game against Watford - as Southampton took an early 2-0 lead in the game at Vicarage Road.
