Wenger will then become the outright all-time Premier League leader for matches spent in charge when Arsenal play West Brom on New Year's Eve.

Having joined the club early in the 1996-97 season, replacing Bruce Rioch, Wenger went on to enjoy huge success in his early years in North London.

The Frenchman, now 68, won three Premier League titles by the end of the 2003-04 season, but has since come under pressure from Arsenal fans desperate for another league crown.

But as Wenger looks set to break the record set by Man United icon Ferguson, we take a look at which boss has the better stats...

Simply put, Wenger's stats - while incredibly impressive - pale in comparison to those racked up by Fergie.

For starters, often the best way to judge success is in league titles... of which the Scot boss racked up an unparalleled 13.

While Wenger's three titles with Arsenal are certainly not to be sniffed at, particularly when you take the 2003-04 "Invincibles" season into consideration.

But ten fewer league crowns in the same 810-game span speaks volumes.

In terms of wins, again Wenger trails his Scottish counterpart - with just 468 compared to Fergie's 528, with the United legend racking up fewer draws and losses.

Ferguson's sides also scored more goals, with a total of 1,627 - over two per game - compared to Wenger's 1,521.

On top of that, United sides under Fergie conceded fewer than Wenger's squads - at 703 vs 779.

Ferguson even racked up in excess of two points per game - at 2.16 - compared to Wenger's still very competitive 1.98 per game.

As well as league titles, Ferguson also bosses Wenger in terms of individual accolades won.

The Scottish boss earned an incredible 27 Manager of the Month titles to Wenger's 15, while added 11 Manager of the Year Gongs, with Wenger way back on three.
