The Cherries were routed 4-0 by Liverpool at The Vitality Stadium on Sunday, slipping to a sixth league game without a win.
Bournemouth now sit just one point off the drop zone and Francis says:
"I don't think there's any shame in a Premier League relegation battle at all, and [manager] Eddie Howe did allude to that.
"The sooner we acknowledge we're in and around it, the better.
"That might allow us to show that extra little bit of fight that we need, especially facing those teams in and around us over Christmas and the New Year."
No such problems for City, 11 points ahead of second-placed Manchester United.
The one fly in the ointment seems to be Sergio Aguero, seemingly lined up for a move to Real Madrid.
He just can't see eye-to-eye with boss Pep Guardiola and is no longer first choice striker, so would prefer to leave the Etihad.
