According to the Times, a one-year contract extension is likely to be triggered - but only to ensure the Red Devils recoup some cash.

Versatile Blind, 27, has proven his worth by playing in a number of different positions for Jose Mourinho.

But he has lost his role at left-back, where he was most often deployed, due to the sparkling form of Ashley Young.

The United veteran is yet to agree a new deal but it is understood the club wish to activate a 12-month extension.

Inter Milan have been linked with a move for Blind and the report claims they could make another move next summer.

Despite not starting any of the last 11 Premier League games, Blind still has the public backing of boss Mourinho.

The Portuguese refused to let him take the blame for conceding to Basel in last week's 1-0 Champions League loss.

Michael Lang sneaked in behind the Holland international to snatch a late winner.

Blind admitted: "It was a good cross and he came round the back and I was a little too late."

But Mourinho said: "It is not fair for Blind to blame himself. He had a very positive game. We have to blame everyone on the pitch because we had so many chances."

Former United manager Louis van Gaal spent £14million to bring in Blind from Ajax in 2014.

He has made 135 appearances for the club and scored six times.
