And the 36-year-old was expected to see out the season at Old Trafford before looking for a lucrative move to the United States.

However the former Barcelona man - who has yet to start a game since his comeback - is aware he has missed a lot of football.

So he has pencilled in talks with Jose Mourinho in the New Year - with both parties vowing to be transparent about their plans.

Ibrahimovic knows he was well supported by United during his injury lay off - with the new one year deal offered and signed at the end of August - three months before his return.

He is also desperate to win the Premier League - to add to his glittering CV - and knows United are very much second favourites this time around.

Mourinho has previously said he believes Ibra can play on until he is 40 - meaning an extended stay at United cannot be ruled out.

Ibrahimovic revealed his injury was worse than many people know, saying: “If people knew the real injury they would be in shock that I was even playing.

“It was more than the knee but I will keep it personal."
