Burnley boss Sean Dyche using thought of pub being named after him to inspire Clarets to European places
The Princess Royal's owners have claimed they will rename their boozer in honour of Dyche if he gets the Clarets into the top six
SEAN DYCHE laughed off talk of a Burnley pub naming itself after him if his team secures a place in next season’s Champions League.
The Princess Royal made headlines in May when staff put a big sign outside declaring ‘Sean Dyche drinks here for free’, in recognition of him keeping the Clarets in the top flight.
But with the club now in striking distance of the European spots, the pub’s owners claim they will rename it The Dyche if Burnley finish in the Premier League’s top four.
Dyche grinned: “Well, I never. I haven’t seen that.
“That’s the only reason I’d do it then! It’s all the motivation I need.”
He was also amused by Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez’s comments that his team are not in the same financial league as Burnley and tonight’s opponents, Bournemouth.
He added: “I was sent a copy of the article with those comments and it’s probably stretching it a little bit to include us in that.
“I’d be surprised if we’re thrown in the mix with that company on a wage scale.
“I understand Rafa’s point, trying to restore some reality by pointing out that Newcastle historically have probably been more powerful financially in the past than they are at this moment.
“But we’re probably not the best example to use, certainly not regarding wages.”

Despite the fact they do not pay ‘top dollar’, Dyche is pleased with the way the club has recruited and says that is why they have taken a big step forward this term.
He added: “I like the way the squad is operating — and it is a squad now. If there are changes to be made, I think the margins are tight between who’s playing and who’s not.
“That was a big part of trying to recruit the right people in the summer, to have that competition.”
