Much like Arsenal duo Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, Messi could be available speak to other clubs in January for pre-contract negotiations.

The Barcelona star's contract situation has alerted the attention of Man City, with Pep Guardiola hoping to be reunited with the Argentine wizard in the summer.

However, while Messi has long said he would only ever want to finish his career at Barca, he has now dropped a different hint.

The Catalan club superstar has claimed there is in fact ONE club he would join should the opportunity arise... boyhood club Newell's Old Boys.

On his future plans, Messi said: "I still have to play in Newell’s and that is my dream.

"But, as I was saying recently, I do not know what will happen a few years from now or how I will be to come back.

“I would love it and I always said it...

"But I hope I can continue at this level to get back to Newell’s because it’s what I dreamed since I was little."

However, aged just 30-years-old and showing no signs of slowing down, Messi - La Liga's top scorer this season with 12 goals - surely won't be heading "home" any time soon.

Newell's Old Boys are currently 19th of 28 teams in the Primera Division - a far cry from Barca, currently storming way ahead at the top of La Liga.

Messi joined the Spanish giants aged just 13-years-old in 2000, having spent his whole youth career at Newell's.
