Man City transfer news: Citizens star Fernandinho closes in one one-year contract extension at the Etihad
The 32-year-old's current deal expires at the end of the season, and Pep Guardiola has labelled the Brazilian as one of the best holding midfielders in the world
FERNANDINHO is ready to put an end to speculation regarding his Manchester City career by signing a new one-year deal, according to reports.
The 32-year-old only has a year left to run on his current contract at the Etihad, but is ready to commit his future to the Citizens.
According to both the Mirror and ESPN, the Brazilian international is poised to extend his stay until 2019 to avoid leaving on a free transfer.
It will reportedly be confirmed once Fernandinho has 'resolved a business issue back in Brazil'.
The deal will delight City boss Pep Guardiola, after he was effusive in his praise for the former Shakhtar Donetsk star in his pre-match match press conference ahead of the Arsenal clash.
He said of him: "I think right now Fernandinho is one of the best three holding midfielders in the world.
"Fernandinho has achieved another level with his positivity and his mentality.
"He gives us a lot, with the ball and without the ball in terms of many things we need to compete.
"Last season we cannot forget that Fernandinho played as a full-back many times with no complaints and he asked how can he improve.
"When this happens and you have a lot of players in your squad with this mentality you can dream to win games."
