Sergio Aguero becomes Manchester City record goalscorer after hitting 178th goal against Napoli

Argentine striker had been level with Eric Brook

SERGIO AGUERO has become Manchester City's all-time top goalscorer.

The Argentine striker took his tally to 178 in just 264 matches - moving past club legend Eric Brook, who played for the City in the 1920s and 30s.

After a burst forward from Leroy Sane in the Champions League clash against Napoli, Aguero picked up the loose ball and slotted coolly home to make it 3-2.

City went on to beat Napoli 4-2 to secure their passage into the knockout stages.

He said after the game: "I am very happy for this moment.

"I am happy because the team helped support me. This moment is one time.

"Napoli are a good team. Away in the Champions League is difficult. I'm happy to win and qualify. Every game, we play the same way."

Aguero, who already has nine goals this season, moved to the Etihad from Atletico Madrid in July 2011 for £38million.

He later Tweeted: "I want to share this achievement with all my family, friends, managers and everyone who made it possible."

The striker scored his first goal for the club after just nine minutes in a City shirt, coming on as a sub in the 4-0 win over Swansea.

He also scored the club's most famous goal in more than half a century - scoring the winner against Queens Park Rangers that won the club their first title in 44 years in 2012.

The striker has been a key part of two title winning teams and two League Cup winning teams.

His 178 goals have come in just 264 appearances - a rate of 0.67 goals per game.
