Manchester United news: Mauricio Pochettino reveals his issues with Jose Mourinho’s outcasted defender Luke Shaw
Tottenham boss managed the left-back during his spell at Southampton and says the England international did not work hard enough
TOTTENHAM boss Mauricio Pochettino has added to Jose Mourinho’s criticisms of Manchester United star Luke Shaw.
The Argentine coached the 22-year-old during his time as Southampton boss.
And although he undoubtedly knows the talent is there in the left-back, he claims Shaw just simply did not work hard enough at St Mary’s.
The Red Devils splashed the cash to bring him to Old Trafford from the Saints back in 2014, but things have not gone to plan.
After a decent start to life in the North West a broken leg stopped him in his tracks back in the 2015/16 campaign.
Since then he has failed to get a run back in the first-team and came under fire publicly from Mourinho last season.
But it seems the Portuguese is not alone in his reservations on Shaw, with Poch now also criticising the ace in his new book.
He says: “I felt his head was not in the right place to make the sacrifices and decisions that are necessary at that age.”

Shaw is still struggling to win over Mourinho and has only appeared made two appearances all season, both in the Carabao Cup.
He has not been named in a Premier League matchday squad with Daley Blind and Ashley Young both being preferred.

And judging by Mourinho’s comments last month, opportunities look like they will be few and far between for the England international.
The United boss said: “He has a future here but the situation is not easy because he comes from injury after injury after injury.
"He needs two, three, four, five or six matches in a row to play, to make mistakes, to get condition, to get match fitness and I cannot give him that.
“If he was a central midfielder then yes, because we only have two but at left back we have so many options. So the situation is not easy. But he is in the squad, he works and maybe the opportunity comes.”
Despite his comments, Pochettino still remains keen on Shaw and reports yesterday claimed he was preparing a January swoop to end his Red Devils misery.
