The experienced boss is happy to ride to the rescue but wants a contract for the next 2½ years.

That would include a bumper pay deal plus a survival bonus after Everton made an awful start to put them in danger.

Allardyce was originally seen as a short-term fix but he will seek guarantees that he can get the job on a full-time basis.

And Big Sam, 63, will also tell the Toffees he wants his own backroom staff as part of his plan to turn round the club.

Margetson was with Allardyce at West Ham when he was briefly boss of England and is currently at Crystal Palace.

Allardyce may want a staff of around ten, including a physio and medical team. So that would be a huge cost for wealthy owner Farhad Moshiri.

However the fear of relegation is so great at Goodison that Moshiri may accept the cost and size of the Allardyce project.

The last 12 months has seen many ups and downs for Sam Allardyce
