Michael Appleton set to stand down as Leicester caretaker manager just a week after taking job
Assistant manager has guided Foxes to two straight victories following the sacking of Craig Shakespeare
MICHAEL APPLETON is reportedly on the verge of stepping down as Leicester’s caretaker boss with Claude Puel set for the hot seat.
The former Oxford United manager was handed the reigns following Craig Shakespeare’s brutal sacking.
But after guiding Leicester to two straight wins against Swansea and Leeds, the Telegraph claims Appleton will now make way for Southampton flop Puel.
The Frenchman has already held successful talks with the King Power hierarchy and is expected to take charge in the next 24 hours.
Whether Appleton stays on at Leicester remains to be seen, with Puel most likely looking to bring in his own staff.
But the interim gaffer is hoping to keep his role as assistant under the new regime.

And Appleton admits his brief time as Leicester’s main man has been nothing short of a “rollercoaster” adventure.
He said: “It’s been a rollercoaster and a difficult week and it would have been worse if we’d not won the two games.
