Liverpool latest news: Jurgen Klopp’s side join unwanted club as they concede 1000th Premier League goal at Spurs

Tottenham defeat ensures the Reds join Aston Villa, West Ham, Newcastle, Everton and another surprise name in having the not so grand record

LIVERPOOL suffered a humiliating defeat at Tottenham on Sunday – and became the sixth member of an unwanted club.

The Reds travelled down to Wembley in confident spirits after their 7-0 midweek triumph at Maribor in the Champions League.

Bu they were up against it after only 12 minutes against Spurs after Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min fired the hosts into an early lead.

And if that was not bad enough for Jurgen Klopp’s side, further salt was added into wounds.

Kane’s fourth-minute effort also gave Liverpool an unwanted record.

That goal was the 1000th conceded by the Reds in the Premier League.

Only five other sides have beaten them to the staggering tally.

Unfortunately for Anfield supporters the misery would not stop there.

After Son had made it 1001 Dele Alli struck just before the break to take it up to 1002.

And then Kane finished again to secure the 4-1 win and leave Liverpool on the tally of 1003.

Next on the list is Newcastle United (1148) and then West Ham (1163).

Aston Villa (1186) and Merseyside rivals Everton (1225) then sit third and second in the table.

And surprisingly, it is Spurs who hold the unwanted crown of having the all-time leakiest defence in Prem history having conceded a total of 1237 goals.
