Arsenal will not want the embarrassment of losing the pair for nothing and potentially up to £100million worth of talent walking out the Emirates door.

Daily Mirror report the Chilean has made up to join City either in January or at the end of the campaign for nothing.

That leaves Arsenal vulnerable to City who could take advantage of the Londoner's weak negotiating positon and demand to pay even less than half the £60m bid tabled for Sanchez on deadline-day.

Landing a forward of Sanchez’s calibre and not being Champions League cup-tied is a mouth-watering prospect for Pep Guardiola in January and could be a huge boost to their title charge.

The Gunners face Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday and Wenger finally admitted the pair’s days in North London could be numbered.

Wenger said: “Once you are in our kind of situation we have envisaged every kind of solution, yes. Yes, it’s possible.”

The Gunners will play it by ear and decide what to do with Sanchez in January and how much they have to play for in the Premier League will also be a factor.

Inter Milan are also monitoring Ozil’s situation but are unlikely to match the German international’s reported £330,000-a-week wage demands.

Sanchez should be available for the trip to Vicarage Road and Wenger does not think Chile’s failure to qualify for next summer’s World Cup will be an issue.

Wenegr added: “I have no doubt that he wants to perform, he never goes on the football pitch to lose a football game, never.

“Sanchez is a winner type, you have always to set targets when you’re a football player.

“When one is gone, you focus on something else.

“Sanchez is 29 at the end of the year, so the next one (World Cup) he will be 33.

“He expected to go, certainly a big disappointment for him.

“But I believe to play at the top level is dealing with that kind of disappointment.”

The Gunners boss will make a final check on last season's top scorer in trainig following his return from South America on Thursday eevening.

Wenger saw Chile lose to Barzil 3-0 and watch on as his forward wasa singled out for "special treatment" from the Brazilian defence.

He added: "I will have to speak to him, yesterday (wednesday) afternoon I watched the Brazil vs Chile game to see how difficult it was.

"I must say he got some special treatment - it was a very physical game and mentally I will have to assess the situation.”
