NFL billionaire owner Robert Kraft interested in Premier League takeover after talks with Liverpool

NFL billionaire Robert Kraft says he is still interested in buying a Premier League club despite failing in his attempt to take charge of Liverpool.

But the tycoon admits the way the sport fails to provide an even chance for all teams is one of the things putting him off investing his money in the Premier League.

Kraft tried to become owner of Liverpool in 2005, only to lose out in the bidding war to American duo Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

Now 76, he has not ruled out finally making as move into English football - but does have reservations.

He told BBC Sport: "I like to win at whatever I do.

"But without a salary cap I'm concerned that we might be at a disadvantage.

"We helped found MLS in America. Our league here is starting to really develop, and with our soccer team we've gone to the championship game five times in 21 years.

"I'm just concerned in the Premier League that we might not, with all the different ways of operating, we're not as familiar with all of them.

"Let's say people from all over the world come in and buy teams and maybe they have different reasons for doing it and managing it.

"And you have to compete with that and I'm not sure. But I'm still intrigued."

Should Kraft make another move for a top flight club it is unlikely to be for Liverpool, which is currently under US ownership by the Fenway Sports Group.

Fenway chief John Henry has valued the club at £1billion, a price tag that would even be out of the reach of the wealthy Kraft.
