Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope signs new three-year deal until 2020 with Clarets after impressing at Turf Moor
The 25-year-old has been a standout performer under Sean Dyche this season after replacing injured shot-stopper Tom Heaton in the starting XI
NICK POPE has signed a new three-year deal with Burnley after impressing since deputising in Tom Heatons' absence.
The 25-year-old is now tied down at Turf Moor until 2020 - with the option of a further 12 months after performing valiantly under Sean Dyche.
He has been a vital member of the Clarets side ever since coming on as a first half substitute for Heaton in the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace last month.
Since then he has started three Premier League matches - keeping a clean sheet in two matches - as Burnley climbed up to sixth spot before the international break.
Speaking to the clubs website, Pope said: "I’m delighted to sign a new contract and extend my stay here.
"I’ve been really happy since I signed last year, so I’m really pleased to get it done.
“We are still growing as a club and I’m growing as a player. That’s what I wanted to do when I first signed.”
Since joining from Charlton Athletic last summer for an undisclosed fee, Pope has made ten appearances in all competitions.
He added: "It’s been lucky on my part how it’s come about – a bit by default. But I’ve really enjoyed it since I’ve been in the team.
"The lads in front of me have been excellent and helped me a lot – especially the two centre-halves (James Tarkowski and Ben Mee).

"It’s been a good few weeks for me personally as well.
"Everyone at the club is happy we’ve made a good start and we’ve got to build on that now."
His manager has revealed his happiness that Burnley have managed to agree terms with the goalkeeper, claiming he is an important squad member.
Dyche said: "We were already in discussions with Nick before he had the chance to start the games he has done recently and we’re pleased they have been finalised.
"He had been working hard to continue his development out of the team.
"He is continuing that since he got into the side and we look forward to him progressing further as an important member of the squad.”
SunSport recently revealed how Pope is statistically the best goalkeeper in Europe, incredibly saving 94.4% of the shots he has faced.
He has only conceded just once - a Mohamed Salah strike in a 1-1 draw at Anfield - in 18 shots this campaign.
