Manchester City want Faouzi Ghoulam from Napoli in January raid as replacement for crocked ace Benjamin Mendy
Pep Guardiola looking for new left-back following news that Mendy could miss rest of season after undergoing surgery
MANCHESTER CITY are reportedly set to make a move for Napoli star Faouzi Ghoulam.
Reports in France via TMW claim that Pep Guardiola wants to land a replacement for crocked Benjamin Mendy in January.
Ghoulam is out of contract at the end of the season and could be available for a bargain fee.
The Algeria international is a key man at Napoli but has given no indication that he’s willing to extend his stay past next summer.
Ghoulam has already been linked with Premier League duo Chelsea and Liverpool.
But he could be heading for City instead following Mendy’s recent knee surgery which could see him ruled out for the remainder of the campaign.
The title hopefuls are now without an established left-back, although they have Fabian Delph and Danilo as short-term options.
But should City wish to sign Ghoulam, they shouldn’t face any problems – according to the agent of fellow Napoli left-back Mario Rui.
Mario Giufreddi said: “Ghoulam is irreplaceable right now. I don’t think he’ll renew with Napoli and it’s enough to think that soon he can sign for whoever he wants for nothing.
“He could earn £4million and if I were his agent I’d do that. I don’t believe stories Ghoulam wants to renew. Besides, with the way he’s playing Napoli can’t afford to put him in the stands.”
