Harry Winks receives his first call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad with Fabian Delph and Phil Jones forced to withdraw
Tottenham's midfielder has been recognised by England and will feature in the 25-man squad that will travel to Wembley on Thursday
HARRY WINKS has been added to the England squad in what will be his first call-up to the senior squad.
This is on the back of the news that Fabian Delph and Phil Jones have both withdrawn from the three lions squad and returned to their respective clubs for rehabilitation.
Tottenham's midfielder was initially named in the U21 squad and even trained with the youth team today.
But 21-year-old Winks will now be part of the senior squad that will face Slovenia at Wembley on Thursday.
This will now mean that there are five Spurs players amongst the 25 strong squad.
Although, Dele Alli is suspended following his conduct in England's game against Slovakia.
Baby-faced Winks only made his U21 debut last November, almost a year later he has been selected for the senior squad.
Winks has featured seven times for Spurs this season, mainly as a substitute.
Harry Kane and Mauricio Pochettino both rate the young midfielder, with Kane even tipping the youngster for the England squad.
Pochettino has called the midfielder 'perfect', while Kane said: "Winks is a great player. On the ball, technically he's fantastic."
The official England account tweeted a tongue-in-cheek video showing Winks' name being removed from the youth squad's changing rooms and added to the door at St George's park.
