DIEGO COSTA has FINALLY started his pre-season training two months into the 2017-18 campaign as he kicks-off his second stint at Atletico Madrid.

The Spanish international, 28, hasn't played all season having been frozen out by Chelsea boss Antonio Conte during the summer.

Costa eventually got his move, rejoining Atleti in a £67million deal - having only left the club for the Blues in 2014 for a £32m fee.

However, with Los Rojiblancos still in the midst of their transfer ban, Costa is not eligible to play for the club until January.

But that hasn't stopped the Brazil-born striker getting down to business back in the Spanish capital - as he kicked-off his training regime.

Atletico Madrid's posted Costa's workout on Instagram, captioned: "Diego Costa trained with the coaching staff.

"It's his second training session in the Wanda Training Complex."

Costa has an incredible £176m buy-out clause in his new deal at Atletico Madrid.

Costa had hoped to make his return to Atletico this summer, but his plans were dashed when Fifa upheld the La Liga side's transfer ban.

Despite being told he was not part of Conte's plans at Chelsea, he was forced to remain with the club past the end of the summer window deadline.

A deal was eventually struck and Costa landed in Madrid on Friday ahead of his medical.

He was present for Atletico's 2-0 victory over Sevilla and a deal was agreed just days later, with the club confirming he will wear the No18 shirt.

Costa was then spotted watching Chelsea's last-gasp win over Atleti at the Vicente Calderon on Wednesday night, as Michy Batshuayi netted a 94th-minute winner.

He was left looking distraught at the full-time whistle, but was seen hugging Antonio Conte's brother Gianluca ahead of kick-off.
