Manchester United without Marouane Fellaini for CSKA Moscow clash with ankle injury
MANCHESTER UNITED will be without Marouane Fellaini for Wednesday’s Champions League trip to CSKA Moscow.
Fellaini had stepped in for the injured Paul Pogba during the last two Premier League games, but suffered an ankle knock in the win at Southampton on Saturday.
The Belgian came out second best in an accidental clash with striker Shane Long in the first half at St Mary’s.
The Midfielder looked to be in considerable pain, but was able to complete the full game as United stayed level on points with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.
The injury seems to have got worse after the final whistle and Fellaini, who has become an important part of Jose Mourinho’s plans will not travel to Russia.
Mourinho’s midfield options are diminishing as Nemanja Matic is also a doubt after picking up a minor knock on Saturday.
With Pogba already absent, it leaves just Michael Carrick and Ander Herrera as the only fit senior midfielders available ahead of matchday two in Group A.
Young Scott McTominay has travelled to Russia and should be on the bench for the game.
The 20-year-old who impressed on the pre-season tour of America made his first appearance of the season in the 4-1 Carabao Cup win over Burton Albion last week.
The trip to Moscow is follwed by the visit of strugglers Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Saturday and after the international break United go to Anfield to take on Liverpool.
