Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho ‘disappointed’ that Andreas Pereira would not fight for place and insisted on Valencia loan move
JOSE MOURINHO says Andreas Pereira has disappointed him by refusing to stay and fight for his place at Manchester United.
The fringe midfielder has been allowed to go on loan to Valencia.
But United boss Mourinho said: “It was a personal decision that I don't agree with, a decision I don't think honestly is the best decision for him, a decision that disappoints me.
“He has the potential to be fighting for a position, for opportunities and to be a Manchester United player.
“His decision can be considered as a young player who wants to play every weekend but also a young player that is not ready to fight for something difficult and it's difficult to play in Manchester Unites’d midfield.
“You have to be ready to fight for the position and I am disappointed he left.
“But it was his decision, I opened the door for his decision.
“But he has a long-term contract, we have the option to bring him back on January 1, so is not a drama but is a decision which disappoints me a little bit.”
Pereira spent last season on loan at Granada but made 11 appearances the season before under Louis van Gaal scoring once.
Mourinho clearly believes the Brazilian youth international has a future having got him to sign an extension to his contract at the same time he went out on loan.

His deal now runs to the end of next season.
Mourinho said: “"I have no doubt that he has the potential to be one of the future great players of this club."
Pereira joined the club as 16-year-old youth player five years ago from PSV Eindhoven.
