The Chile star, rated at £50million, seemed certain to join City, who saw a player-plus-cash bid involving Raheem Sterling knocked back earlier this week.

Yet punters are piling in on Sanchez to stay after Arsenal cooled on Thomas Lemar as a potential replacement.

Sun Bets spokesman Tim Reynolds said: "The whole industry was caught cold by this one.

"He has been odds-on to go to City for days but with the Lemar deal collapsing we now think he will stick it out at the Emirates.

"Anything can happen though and there is some value at 8/5 for there to be a late move and his City deal to go through."

The Gunners have already moved on Calum Chambers, Kieran Gibbs and Lucas Perez.

Wenger was spotted in Paris earlier on Thursday and it had been thought he was thrashing out a deal with Monaco for £100m-rated Lemar.

Yet that deal hit the buffers with Arsene Wenger thought to have been wary at rushing through a deal which would have more than doubled Arsenal's transfer record.

And now it seems as if Sanchez will see out the remaining 12 months of his contract in North London.
